3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair
If you're looking for a buggy to take on walks in the woods or strolls on the main streets, an all terrain pushchair with excellent manoeuvrability will be the perfect choice. These models usually have large wheels and have a powerful suspension to ensure a smooth ride over rough terrain and bumps.
The majority are suitable for babies and come with a lie-flat seat or newborn carrycot. These vehicles also have tyres that do not flatten, which are typically made of foam.
Suspension
A true all terrain pushchair will have a good suspension which is specifically designed to be smooth on rough ground, helping your little one to feel comfortable and at ease. The wheels are typically large and puncture-proof to prevent injuries caused by sharp rocks or sharp sticks.
Some all-terrain strollers also offer the option to switch between tyres with different conditions. Certain all-terrain strollers come with a swivel wheel that can be locked to give stability or unlocked to permit greater manoeuvrability.
For additional peace of mind Some all-terrain pushchairs feature a locking handbrake that is easier to reach and use with your free hand than with an ordinary brake pedal located placed on the handlebars' side. This is a great feature to have if you want to take on the steep slopes, especially with a child in the seat, and a number of shopping bags tucked away underneath!
There are many strollers that offer decent off-road capability, but not the ultimate. They also have big wheels and a great suspension. These are typically cheaper than the more expensive all-terrain buggy models, and will still be perfectly suitable for trips to the dog park or for short walks in the country.
A lot of these pushchairs are suitable starting at birth, either with the carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that the seats will not lie flat when pushing over bumps or dips. According to EU regulations, they need to meet minimum standards of reclined angles of approximately 150deg. Certain brands, like Graco have gotten around this with their new "comfitech" suspension in the seat that allows the seat to recline at a flatter angle for a bit more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP All-Terrain Pushchair, that can be used in conjunction with the Graco Infant Car Seat to create a 3-in-1 travel system.
Seat
There are a wide range of all-terrain pushchairs with three wheels available that offer an excellent off road capability. They are perfect if you reside in the countryside or go walking on uneven, rough terrain. These are more robust and durable than a regular pushchair. They come with special features, like big puncture-proof tires to handle the most difficult surfaces. They are usually quite large, which means they can be tricky to manoeuvre in narrow spaces or through aisles in shops.
All-terrain buggy seats are positioned either parent or world facing. They will grow with your child from birth to toddler. It's outfitted with foam-filled "never flat' tyres to ensure an easy ride with dual frame suspension as well as lavish padding inside the seat that provides superb postural support and comfort. It also comes with a reclining mechanism and comes with an extended sun hood that can be extended that has integrated ventilation as well as a pocket for your smart phone.
Another option that is a great choice is the new Out 'n' About Nipper V5, a pushchair that's all-terrain that is a true trailblazer with a great suspension and air-filled tyres, so it can be used for jogging when your child is old enough. It also features the ability to lock the front 360 swivel wheel for manoeuvrability, and a one-handed fold that's super quick and simple. It is suitable from birth, and is compatible with an adaptor for UPPAbaby's infant car seat or carrycot (sold separately).
There are a number of all-terrain strollers, but they don't have a reversible seat. However, the Oyster 3, Venicci Tanum and egg 2, which come with this option, come with a very good weight limit and a very high level of off-road capability. 3 wheeled pushchair are categorized as all-rounders. This includes the iCandy Pear, Bugaboo Cameleon and others. They can navigate rough terrain in parks and National Trust locations, but don't have the off-road capabilities as true all-terrain strollers.
There are also crossover models, which are a great alternative to extreme off-road and street and offer excellent all-terrain capabilities with big wheels and excellent suspension, but they're built more in a typical pushchair style, with reversible seats and the option of a full carrycot, so they can be used everyday. Brands such as iCandy, Easywalker and Bugaboo have created some great ones to look at.
Wheels
All-terrain pushchairs are a must if you live in the countryside or take your child on regular walks over rough terrain. These models have bigger wheels on the back of normal pushchairs, allowing them to deal with bumpy terrain better and offer a smoother ride for your child. Many also come with a sturdy suspension and puncture-proof versions which make them suitable for use on grass, woodland or trails, gravel tracks and market town cobbles.

Some all-terrain pushchairs also feature a lockable front wheel which provides more stability when walking on rough terrain and on high kerbs. Some have swivel wheels on the front that let you maneuver the buggy more easily when you change direction or turn corners.
All-terrain pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which provide excellent shock absorption and are ideal for tackling rough ground but they're more prone to punctures than the solid EVA tyres used on city strollers, therefore it's a good idea to invest in an repair kit with spare tubes and a pump alongside your pushchair. Some models come with foam tyres that are less likely to puncture but might be more difficult to push.
The brand new Bugaboo Fox 5 is a good example of a pushchair that comes with foam-filled and air-filled tyres. It also has an excellent suspension system, and large rear puncture-proof wheels which are perfect for off-road or running (once your child is old enough). It is also suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or a lie-flat chair.
Another option is the iCandy Peach All-Terrain, which has large tyres and has only a single steering wheel in the front. It is not as flexible as other strollers that are all-terrain, but it can manage hilly terrain and features a large one-hand fold that is ideal for long walks in the countryside or long trips. It is also suitable for infants and has a spacious canopy that extends and a movable handlebar and a large, spacious basket.
Stores
There are some excellent all-terrain pushchairs that are ideal for parents who want to take their child off-road, but don't want to take on Ben Nevis. They offer the best of both. Look for a model with excellent all-terrain capabilities, durable suspension and big puncture-proof wheels but designed in a more traditional pushchair design with reversible seats as well as the option of a full carrycot.
UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all-terrain pushchair is a great illustration of this. It has a great suspension, an easy one-handed fold and a huge 10kg basket but also has features for parents that are child-friendly, like an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right-hand side and a large, covered storage space. A hood that can be removed and cleaned with cool soapy water is a helpful feature that can prevent mildew and mould from forming.
If you're planning on taking your all-terrain pushchair off-road it's a good idea to choose air-filled tyres instead of ones with rubber grips. They'll provide a more comfortable ride on rough terrain and be easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. If you are planning to use your all-terrain pushchair to do occasional jogging, make sure the front wheel is able to swivel or features a quick release mechanism so it can be locked in place for more stability.
To keep the fabrics in pristine condition, ensure that they are machine-washed. If not, spot cleaning with warm water and a little of soap gentle enough should be sufficient. The fabric can be dried completely outside to avoid mold or mildew.
The majority of our three wheeled all terrain pushchairs can be used from birth. It is recommended to look for models that have a fully lying-flat seat with an adjustable backrest. This will allow you to use the pushchair from the time your baby is born until the time your child reaches around three years old. If you plan to travel with your family of three, a lot are compatible with car seats thanks to built-in adaptors. If you'd rather leave the car at home, there are all-terrain pushchairs with fixed front wheels that are perfect for casual strolling or light jogging like the Delta Special Needs all-terrain jogger from Delichon that is available in a range of canvas and frame sizes that can be used by adults and children.
