3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy can be used for off-road walking and to tackle terrain from uneven paths or tracks in woodlands. They are also easier to move between kerbs and up and down them compared to 4-wheel models.
Kath who is the editor of MadeForMums' reviews, tested one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac, as well as on various terrains. Read her review here.
Stability
With four wheels and a center of gravity that's balanced by the weight of your child's seat, 4-wheel buggies are generally considered to be more stable than triwheelers. But that doesn't mean an older model with three wheels isn't worth a look, since some of them are built to cope with everything from rough terrain to bustling high-streets.
If you want a buggie that is easy to control and won't be a problem on bumpy roads, look for a model with large rear wheels and an adjustable front wheel that locks. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres, too. They are ideal for handling surfaces that aren't paved and can be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
They're also great buggies to jog with because they provide great stability on more rough terrain and aid you in staying with your running companion. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and a lot of them come with a built-in spring suspension so your child will enjoy an enjoyable ride.
One thing that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair difficult to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which makes it more difficult to maneuver into narrow spaces and tight doorways than a 4-wheeler. However certain manufacturers have addressed this issue by implementing a clever design that makes the wheels fold up when not being used, which reduces their overall size and helps you get through doors without difficulty.
It's also important to think about whether your buggy is suitable for your child from birth or if you're planning on using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. If so, make sure it has an upright position and if the design is compatible with second-seats and buggy boards (if you're planning to put a toddler onboard). A lot of 3-wheelers fold flat and be placed upright. This is great for those with an unwieldy boot space or limited storage at home. Some 3-wheelers require you to remove the front wheel in order to fold them into smaller sizes.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies typically provide better maneuverability than pushchairs with four wheels. They usually have a swivelling front wheel which allows you to change direction quickly and steer with just one hand. Some also come with a lockable front wheel which can give you security on more difficult terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, should you decide to grow your family.
If you're planning to take your three-wheeled buggy off roads, you should consider choosing one with air-filled tyres (also known as pneumatic tyres) which are able to withstand the most challenging terrain. These tyres may require periodic pumping, but will be far more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. It is recommended to choose one with a swiveling front wheel that can be locked to assist you in navigating tricky surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers can be heavier than buggies with four wheels due to the single wheel in front. Make sure the model you choose fits in your car's boot and can be placed upright if required. 3 wheeler pushchair can be folded with one hand, and they can be raised when folded. This can help save space in small car boot.
A good 3 wheel pushchair will be able to deal with any terrain, from busy streets to woodland tracks. It's important to think about what you'll be using it for every day. If you will be making the school run with it, it must be able to handle sharp slopes and kerbs. If you'll be jogging with it, ensure it has an adjustable lockable swivelling'stretch' for the front wheel to ensure that the ride is steady.
MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy to be able to perform well on both urban and countryside walks. Kath said it negotiated cobbles, rocky paths and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable to jog with too. It's also a great option for day trips since it is packed with storage space. This includes an ample, spacious zip-top covered basket as well as an extendable, 50+ UV hood. It can also be adapted to fit babies as young as an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, in addition to being compatible with the majority of popular second-seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The main difference between a fabric sling versus a modular seat is that the fabric sling sits comfortably inside the frame of the buggy as opposed to sitting on top like a modular seat. This makes it easier to maintain an ergonomically correct position of the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity that is just the right height. This in turn makes for an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't require the same amount of effort and weight to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and a better stability and balance.
The sling fabrics that are used in these kinds of buggy seats are very hard-wearing and easy to clean. Made specifically for applications for sling chairs in mind These fabrics are extremely UV resistant and breathable. These fabrics are also very easy to maintain using mild soap and warm water.
If you are a jogger, or enjoy off-roading, then an all-terrain buggy is more suited to your needs than a four-wheel buggy. These styles generally have a larger base, more stable and utilise air filled tyres to ensure smooth, easy movement on rough ground.
Maxi-Cosi, a brand known for its car seats, has added a new 3-wheeler called the Stella to its product line. This all-terrain stroller boasts a large and spacious travel system seat unit which can be set either in the direction of the parent or facing the world. It can also recline flat and comes with an improved 5-point safety belt. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot starting at birth. It also has a large shopping basket.
Designed for the most discerning buggy owners, this luxurious 3 wheeler is as stunning to look at as it is enjoyable to use. The sleek frame is finished in a stunning pewter black with touches of silver-burnished aluminium all over making it a complete WOW factor. A big, padded seat that is world or parent-facing with an improved 5-point safety harness and an entire set of rain covers make this a great choice for active parents.
Modular Seat
Modular seating offers an array of configurations to meet different seating requirements. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a relaxing place to watch films, or a spacious arrangement to entertain guests. Many modular seating systems come with removable cushion covers, making it easier to clean spills and staining.
Modular Seating is available in various styles to match existing decor or as an accent piece. You can pick from a variety of colors, fabrics, and shapes to design an elegant and modular seating design that fits your style. Modular seating also comes with various functional features, including storage compartments hidden from view for easy organizing.
3-wheel buggies are more stable than strollers with four wheels, making them ideal for off-road or all-terrain adventures. The large front wheel, which is highly maneuverable, allows for smooth and swift movement. The tyres, which are typically air-filled and come with suspension, offer a comfortable ride even on the roughest trails and roads. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs, as they are with four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them perfect for walking uphill.
Parents who love to run and jog with their babies usually opt for strollers with three wheels because they are more agile and sleeker than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for example, has a sleek, burnished aluminum frame that has a simple, one-handed fold and rear-facing and forward-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, features a black frame with a carrycot that can be placed in a fully lie-flat position, and has tyres that are air-filled.

Another great all-terrain option is the lightweight, highly manoeuvrable and fashionable Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This is a buggy that will truly protect your wallet from the future and will take you from birth with the included carrycot, right through to toddlerhood using the seat that is modular (and beyond!). All this is within the footprint of a single buggy.
Duet(tm) is an side-by-side buggy that is small enough to be used in urban areas yet also innovative and controlled. It features an innovative fabric sling seat that's positioned comfortably inside the frame and at the perfect height to ensure a optimal weight distribution for effortless rolling over kerbs, and for navigating neighborhoods and cities.
